Orthopedic acupuncture is a specialized branch of acupuncture that focuses on musculoskeletal health (bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons). It draws from traditional acupuncture, but integrates modern anatomical, biomechanical, and orthopedic knowledge using targeted needling based on physical exam, functional movement patterns, and orthopedic assessments.
Techniques used include trigger-point needling / dry needling, electroacupuncture, and soft tissue therapies (e.g., cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, manual therapy) to address muscle imbalances, joint restrictions, scar tissue/adhesions, and impaired movement patterns.
The aim is to restore normal, pain-free movement, joint and muscle function, flexibility, and strength, whether the issue comes from an acute injury, chronic overuse, surgery, or structural imbalance.
